Kashmiri Mongra is not a spice you leave on a bright kitchen rack. Each crimson thread is a dried stigma, packed with crocin and safranal — compounds that fade when light and steam attack them.
The storage triad
- Dark glass — Opaque or amber jars beat clear plastic every time.
- Cool cupboard — Away from the stove, never the fridge (condensation ruins threads).
- Tight seal — Open briefly, close firmly; do not leave the lid off while cooking.
Bloom before you cook
Crush a few threads between clean fingers, steep in two spoons of warm (not boiling) milk or water for 10–15 minutes, then add to your dish. Blooming unlocks colour and aroma that dry sprinkling never reaches.
Our Mongra arrives in nitrogen-protected vials sized for real kitchens — small enough that you finish a jar while it is still singing.
